It’s one down, and one to go for construction crews working on Ohio State’s Arts District. The Timashev Family Music Building opened for classes in August 2022, while the Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts is creeping closer to an expected February 2023 opening.
The $165.3 million Arts District is sited between 15th and 18th avenues, and envisions high-quality, modern learning environments for interaction across arts disciplines. The Theatre, Film, and Media Arts building is 60% complete. Recent or upcoming construction activities include:
Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts
- Interior framing, ceiling framing, drywall and door frames are taking place throughout the building.
- Level three hallways have drywall and are now ready for paint.
- Framing is underway at Proscenium Theatre ceilings with the recent addition of a catwalk.
- Ductwork continues in the on the Mezzanine, Scene Shop and Thrust Theatre.
- Brick installation is wrapping up on the south elevation while metal panel installation takes place on the west elevation.
- On the east and south exteriors, window installation can be seen as crews frame and install glass.
- A sidewalk is being placed on the east side of the building while exterior planter granite installation also occurs.
- Inside, elevators 1 and 3 continue to be installed.
While progress continues on the Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts, the Timashev Family Music Building is in full use. In early September, new wayfinding signage was installed in the near elevator lobbies. View the slideshow to track progress and to see final images of the music building.
