The Mars G. Fontana Laboratories is phase I of the Biomedical and Materials Engineering Complex. The building opened in August 2020 and aligns with Framework 2.0 and the university’s strategic plan, by enhancing both teaching and learning through improved facilities and support space.
The $59.1 million Mars G. Fontana Laboratories renovated the former Koffolt Lab and Fontana Lab to create additional research, classroom and office space. It houses the Departments of Biomedical Engineering and Materials Sciences and Engineering. The project included a complete renovation in Koffolt and Fontana, while a new 20,000 square foot addition was constructed north of existing Koffolt/Fontana.
