Crews are in the home stretch of construction on the Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts building, the final step on completing the Arts District. Work is about 95% complete and is on track to open for programming by this Fall as tenants have already started moving in. Crews are finalizing theatrical finishes and completing punch lists. The $163.5 million Arts District aims to open Ohio State’s front door to the heart of the University District at 15th Avenue and High Street. The Timashev Family Music Building opened last year.
Construction progress on the Department of Theatre, Film, and Media Arts includes:
- Hanging wood panels in the Proscenium Theatre
- Cabinet and shelving installation
- Installation of cable pulls on Stage and Scene Shop
- Chilled water system modifications
- Painting the Proscenium Theatre
- Terrazzo completed in the lobby
Once the new space officially opens, crews will begin demolition of the old Drake Performance Center as part of the Cannon Drive Phase II project that provides the campus with 500-year flood production.
A recent video story showcases how the new building will be used to advance the arts through performances. In addition, you can review the above slideshow for a glimpse inside.
