Slideshow: Cannon Drive Relocation Phase 2

The Cannon Drive Relocation – Phase 2 project is on track to be completed by January 2025. FOD and construction crews are working on utility installation. Certified flood levee construction is paused, per weather restrictions, and will resume in April. Since September 2023, crews have opened Herrick Drive, built the Lincoln Parking lot, demolished the Drake Performance Center and performed work on the levee.

In the coming weeks, contractors will be in the intersection of Herrick Drive and Cannon Drive installing the final pieces of traffic signals. Drivers can expect lane closures and workers in the vicinity.

“With these shifts happening, we want to encourage drivers and pedestrians to keep their eyes up, phones down and ears open when traveling by the construction site,” said Tom Ekegren, Facilities Design and Construction project manager.

The next traffic shift will happen in June when the Lincoln “moat” will reopen, and the mid Tower parking lot will be accessible from the south instead of the north. The Olentangy Trail along the river is expected to reopen in the summer of 2024.

When complete, the project will add up to 500-year flood protection for the Columbus campus. Work also includes a new signalized intersection at Woody Hayes Drive and the continued expansion of the river park.
