Construction on the Wexner Medical Center Inpatient Hospital is at 95% complete as crews have already turned over floors 11, 12 and 14 to the fit-up team, in addition to floors one through ten. Floors 15 and 16 are currently being turned over followed by 17 and 18. Once floors are turned over to the fit-up team, they’re cleaned and then equipment and furniture are installed.
Cabling is being installed to the operating rooms (OR) for surgical video integration which will allow medical professionals to utilize audio and video technology during procedures.
“While some floors have furniture in place and look nearly ready for use, others are still in the earlier stages of construction,” said Ragan Fallang, Facilities Design and Construction executive project manager for the inpatient hospital. “People may see the exterior or the more finished rooms and wonder why the hospital isn’t open yet, but it’s important to note that this is a very large project and each floor is on its own construction timeline for different reasons.”
While information technology and furniture are being installed on some floors, drywall is being installed and crews are preparing to install flooring and paint on floor 24.
Construction progress includes:
- Surgical Booms being installed in ORs.
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU) Booms being installed on floor 10.
- Cabling being installed for surgical video integration in ORs.
- Drywall being installed on floor 24.
- Preparing to install flooring and paint on floor 24.
On track to open in early 2026, the 1.9 million-square-foot hospital is the largest single facilities project ever undertaken at Ohio State.
