Slideshow: Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center

Exterior framing of the classroom wing phase is complete, while masonry as well as mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) rough-in continue. Demolition inside Hamilton Hall has wrapped up and foundation work has begun on the forum. The anatomy wing opened in January 2022.The classroom wing phase is scheduled to open in June 2023 and Hamilton renovation phase in January 2024.

Additional construction highlights include:

  • Classroom Wing Phase
    • Exterior masonry is complete on 60% of the south façade, nearly 50% on the north façade and within the east breezeway.
    • Overhead MEP rough-in is complete on the lower level, as well as the first, second and third floors. Progress in the penthouse continues and is expected to be complete in mid-October.
    • Interior wall framing is complete on all floors and drywall installation is underway on the lower level and first floor.
    • Waterproofing on the east façade of Starling Loving is complete and soil backfilling is occurring to prepare the future green space within the quadrangle.
    • Interior steel and decking at the new east entrance to Starling Loving is complete. Concrete is expected to be poured in the coming weeks.
  • Hamilton Hall Renovation Phase
    • Interior demolition is complete.
    • Excavation for the forum, a 4-story event space, is complete, and wall forms for new foundation walls are now beginning.
    • Exterior masonry maintenance continues. The south and east sides are complete. The north side is nearing completion and west side is also now in progress.
    • Exterior window replacement is complete on the north façade and is about 25% complete on south façade.
    • Interior structural steel and decking infill continue on all floors. Interior steel cross bracing also continues at northeast stair.
    • Priority interior wall framing continues on floors one through four and additional interior wall framing is underway on the second, third and fourth floors.
    • Overhead MEP rough-in is underway on the second, third and fourth floors.

When complete, the facility will benefit health sciences colleges, including medicine, dentistry, nursing, optometry, pharmacy, public health and veterinary medicine, while strengthening the interdisciplinary curriculum of Ohio State.
