Slideshow: Cannon Drive Relocation – Phase 2

Cannon Drive Relocation – Phase 2 rebuilds the roadway between John Herrick Drive and Woody Hayes Drive at its current elevation and constructs a certified ODNR flood protection levee. When finished, the project will add up to 500-year flood protection for the Columbus campus.

Currently, crews are working to build the levee and the associated utilities through the Herrick and Cannon intersection as well as preparing Drake Union for demolition.

The Herrick intersection is scheduled to open in the fall. When it does, Cannon Drive to the north will remain closed. While construction is ongoing, Tom Ekegren, Cannon Drive project manager, says safety for everyone on campus is top of mind.

“We have gate guards stationed at all active construction gates to ensure construction vehicles enter and exit the site safely,” he said. “We’ve established the Olentangy Trail detour around the construction site and even set up a detour to that detour for large stadium events. We continue to share information in various channels to ensure customers are aware and alert of the construction activity in the area.”
