Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Construction on the Biomedical and Materials Engineering Complex (BMEC) Phase 2 is about 45% complete as crews recently finished installing the final concrete piers. The focus is now on ensuring a strong foundation with footers and a foundation wall. Construction on the north and south connectors from Mars G. Fontana Laboratories to MacQuigg Hall is underway and taking shape.

    Construction progress includes:

    • Crews completed installation of concrete piers.
    • Priority walls are going up.
    • Level one duct work is beginning.
    • Crews are beginning to install hangars on second level.
    • Crews are beginning to lay out wall studs on second level.
    • Crews are working to complete an exterior mockup for others to use for reference as the project progresses.

BMEC Phase 2 is a $94.3 million project that included the demolition of Watts Hall and renovates existing MacQuigg Hall. It will be the home of first-year engineering courses, makerspace, biomedical and advanced materials R&D and engaging K-12 STEM programs.
