Drone Flight: Jane E. Heminger Hall

The new College of Nursing building, adjacent to Newton Hall, has a new name. Ohio State’s Board of Trustees approved “Jane E. Heminger Hall” in recognition of Gary and Jane Heminger’s support for the college’s continued work in transforming the future of health. The new facility is scheduled to open in August 2022 with a first floor renovation of Newton Hall to open the following summer.

Construction progress includes:

  • Completed temporary roof, poured all concrete slabs, exterior water protection and brick façade on the east side of the building.
  • Ongoing work includes brick masonry, HVAC, electrical and plumbing rough-ins.
  • The exterior of Newton Hall will be under renovation starting in December 2021 to remove sections of exterior wall and infill with pre-cast concrete panels and glass.

When the project is finished, a three-story atrium will provide space for study, gatherings and collaboration. A multi-purpose event space will feature a 176-seat flexible classroom with a partition wall that can open up to a 40-seat group learning classroom. A demo kitchen will offer opportunities to promote everyday wellness and consistent quality of life through collaboration. An innovation studio makerspace will foster inter-professional collaboration across the university for creating healthcare solutions.
