Buck-Eye View – Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center

The Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center is 20% complete, but the first of its three phases will open soon – in January 2022. The $155.9 million project on 10th Avenue includes a 120,000-square-foot renovation of Hamilton Hall and construction of a new 100,000-square-foot building. The building will provide upgraded and flexible facilities to create a collaborative campus, serving multiple disciplines for interprofessional education throughout the Health Sciences.

Roofing work is 95% complete on the anatomy wing of the Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center, and brick installation continues through mid-summer. Columbus Business First highlighted the construction projects to watch at Ohio State over the next decade, citing the university's projected five-year, $2.4 billion capital plan.

"The next 10 years are going to be a construction boom," said Mark Conselyea, Ohio State's associate vice president of facilities operations and development.

In the News: Ohio State kicks off 'historic' $2.4B in construction driven by master plan

Columbus Business First reports that Ohio State has approved a $2.37 billion 5-year capital plan to support Framework 2.0 and the university's strategic plan. It is an historic number for Ohio State as the university delivers on major projects identified in the campus master plan.

As reported by the outlet, classroom and laboratory buildings make up 47% of the new projects, and 39% are for OSU Wexner Medical Center.

“That’s really a healthy balance,” said Jay Kasey, Ohio State's senior vice president in the Office of Administration and Planning.

In the News: New $155.9 million Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center

The Lantern recently wrote about an exciting new project -- a $155.9 million Interdisciplinary Health Sciences Center.

According to the outlet, the construction of the center will include renovations to Hamilton Hall, located at the corner of 10th and Neil avenues, as well as construction of a new wing extending onto 10th Avenue. The new wing will form an enclosure to the space and create a quadrangle for student use as well as special events.
