As highlighted by Columbus Business First, The inpatient hospital is 70% complete with construction. 

"Despite inflation, close collaboration and transparency between that huge crew, contractors, administrators and leadership has kept construction on budget and on time for an early 2026 opening," said Kristin Poldemann, associate vice president for Facilities Design and Construction.

As crews work to finish the lantern glasswork along the top of the structure, the building is on track for an early 2026 opening. Nearly 1,100 workers are in and out of the building daily. The Wexner Medical Center Inpatient Hospital tower is scheduled to open in 2026. The largest single facilities project in The Ohio State University's history, the 26-floor building will have 820 beds in private room settings.

In the News: Hard Hat Tour

Columbus Underground recently featured the Wexner Medical Center Inpatient Hospital project as part of its Hard Hat Tour series. According to the outlet, the project will be the 10th-tallest building in Columbus and the tallest outside of downtown. The publicaton cited that university officials say the project will use two times more concrete than Ohio Stadium and twice as much steel as the Eiffel Tower.

In the News: New hospital expected to 'transform health care'

As highlighted by ABC6 News, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Inpatient Hospital, the largest single facilities project ever undertaken on campus, takes a major step forward.

"We just topped off the steal beam is in... 411 feet tall," Jay Anderson, Chief Operating Officer at the Wexner Medical Center told the ABC6.

The 1.9 million-square-foot inpatient hospital will provide the space for leading-edge research, outstanding clinical training and world-class patient care.

Connecting to the Inpatient Hospital

A milestone three years in the making has been reached. This week, construction crews took the first step of connecting The Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute (The James) to The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center Inpatient Hospital under construction.

Crews used a crane to pull eight-inch thick, 12,000-pound precast panels up through a 16-inch gap between the two buildings. Imagine threading a 12,000-pound needle!
